Diabetes and Older Adults: Exercise Matters!
Regular physical activity offers many benefits for people with diabetes, which occurs in people of all ages but is more common in older adults. The National Diabetes Education Program, a joint program between the National Institute on Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), supports the exercise and nutrition needs of older adults with diabetes.
Check out their Diabetes in Older Adults webpage for ways older adults can better manage their diabetes or take steps to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. Physical activity is a great way to do both! Caregivers, organizations, and health care professionals can also find useful tools to help them better understand the issues that affect older adults.
