The National Institute on Aging’s Go4Life Team and our partner organizations have many new and exciting activities planned and underway in conjunction with Go4Life Month in September 2018. See what’s happening!

National Go4Life Partners

  • Age Safe America
    • Sharing Go4Life tools, resources, and information with Advisory members in 26 states
    • Introducing the Go4Life program and resources to partners in the Whole Care Network and their 17 Caregiver Podcast Show partners
  • Aging Life Care Association
    • Using Go4Life social media messages from the Go4Life Month Toolkit
    • Will e-flash messages to members
  • American Federation for Aging Research
    • Promoting Go4Life via social media, newsletter, and e-list to 11,000 subscribers
    • Will promote Go4Life information during a webinar planned in partnership with Second Avenue. The webinar is designed for a consumer audience and will act as bridge between consumers and scientific findings about circadian rhythms, caloric restriction/fasting
  • American Library Association
    • As in past years, is promoting information about Go4Life messages and availability of free resources via ALA’s e-lists for public Programs and Public Libraries

    • Listing Go4Life as a resource and referral in any story pertaining to older adults that appears in APTA’s PTinMotion
    • Providing information about the new Go4Life Speakers Toolkit and other Go4Life resources
    • Providing Go4Life materials at an APTA Falls Prevention Fair
    • Using social media to post information and messages about Go4Life Month, including postings on Twitter and Facebook by students working on APTA’s Council on Prevention, Health Promotion

    • Sending information to APA’s extensive network of psychologists who work with older adults
    • Including the Speakers Toolkit in our next office newsletter

  • International Council on Active Aging
    • Promoting Go4Life Month with a full-page ad in its Journal on Active Aging
    • Including Go4Life resources as a part of Active Aging Week
  • Let’s Move in Libraries
    • Helping to organize Go4Life Month presentations at local libraries
  • National Association of Social Workers
    • Promoting use of Go4Life badge in various media to colleagues in NASW’s 55 chapters
  • National Council on Aging
    • Included information about Go4Life in August NCOA Center for Health Aging e-newsletter that reaches thousands of aging network and health care professionals across the country
    • Requesting that Go4Life social media messages be posted during each week in September, which aligns with Fall Prevention Awareness Day on September 22

  • City of Daly City, CA
    • To focus on getting ready for exercise during the first week of Go4Life Month, the City of Daly City is holding sessions to help older adults learn about the 4 types of recommended exercises – endurance, strength, balance and flexibility – and will help them assess their current fitness levels
    • Hosting a post-lunch “Stroll with a Trainer,” where older adults will take a walk with a trainer who will discuss the benefits of walking and of regular physical activity as we age

    • Conducting some intergenerational activities that may include a walk
    • In partnership with a 24-hour fitness gym, will hold an orientation at the fitness center
    • Possibly include a speaker featuring Go4Life information
  • Mississippi State University Extension Service
    • Promoting Go4Life resources in 82 counties around the state
  • Northwestern Regional Library System, NC
    • In association with Let’s Move in Libraries and the Go4Life Team is conducting a Go4Life presentation for librarians using the Speakers Toolkit on Sept. 5
  • Parkinson’s Cycling Coach, FL
    • Promotes Go4Life continually through an online training for group Indoor cycling for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. This training is supported by the American Council on Exercise and is offered to qualified coaches. The program is marketed through several Parkinson’s Foundations and on social media

    • Partnering with libraries, the YMCA, and local media to promote Go4Life
    • Appearing in a local television segment promoting Go4Life and physical activity for older adults
  • Potomac Community Village, MD
    • Distributing Go4Life postcards at three hosted events
    • Hosting a walk on the C&O Canal, open to all community members as part of the Montgomery County MD Health Aging Week
    • Providing walkers with Go4Life tracking tools to evaluate starting point and track progress
  • Sacred Heart Healing Arts Center, MI
    • Handing out Go4Life materials to its older acupuncture patients
    • Sponsoring talks and/or setting up a local walk through working with the chamber of commerce
    • Since each month focuses on an aspect of health, Go4Life will be the “theme” for media posts during Go4Life Month

    • Offering guided meditation (in partnership with Metro Parks)
    • Holding a Strength – Biceps Curl Competition (in partnership with Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community)
    • Holding a Yoga in the Park class to focus on flexibility
  • Successful Aging and Frailty Evaluation (SAFE) Clinic, IL
    • Handing out Go4Life material in clinical practice at nearly every clinical and will begin adding postcards to distribution
    • The SAFE clinic co-director will also hand out the Go4Life materials at a local community education event in September
    • Planning to conduct a research pilot test of a technology program featuring the Go4Life content delivered via an Alexa device as well

    • Will teach a Free College Day class at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in Ann Arbor Michigan. At this semi-annual event, which is open to the public, a professor will speak about the Biology of Aging and the Positive Effects of Physical Activity on the Process
