Use these Go4Life resources to help older adults prepare properly and safely when exercising.
Order and distribute the Go4Life “call-to-action” postcard to prompt older adults to start thinking about exercise and provide them with a way to easily obtain free Go4Life materials. (E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for copies.)
Order copies of the free Go4Life Exercise and Physical Activity Guide and distribute them to older adults. Ask them to read, or you can peruse together, chapter 3, Get Set. (Order the guide here.)
Invite a local health expert to talk about the benefits of exercise. Make available the free Go4Life materials you have ordered.
Look for and team up with another September health event in the community such as a health fair or health screening to plan a Go4Life event there.
At the end of the week, have a group discussion and ask older adults about their exercise experience and what they have done to prepare for exercise.
Week 2 (September 10-14) – Get moving! Do all 4 types of exercise

Watch these Go4Life exercise video tutorials with a group of older adults to see how to properly do specific strength, balance, and flexibility exercises and to learn about endurance exercises. Try a few of the exercises with the group.
